THE SALT WHARF

OUR
STORY
What’s in a name? Well, for us, it’s about 170 years of history.
Back in the 1800s, Camden was a bustling harbor with a robust maritime economy. And right here on these docks, fishing vessels from near and far would come to the wharf to load their hulls with salt, which they would use to preserve their catch. The area of the harbor became known as the Salt Wharf.
Today, Salt Wharf pays respect to the rich maritime history of our community. And while we might not be loading fishing boats bound for the farthest reaches of the globe, we recognize and appreciate the rich history of these docks and are proud to be part of a vibrant working waterfront once again.
Much has changed since the “old days,” but the respect for those who dedicate their lives to the maritime industry—whether through boat boatbuilding, fishing, lobstering, or simply the enjoyment of messing about in boats—remains the same.
